Save with a Programmable Thermostat
are one of the least expensive and simplest ways to conserve energy in your home year-round. Setting your thermostat around your work schedule will not only ensure your home is comfortable when you arrive, but will also save you money by cycling the system on and off throughout the day.
ENERGY STAR® offers the following tips to save big with a programmable thermostat:
- Select the right model – Programmable thermostats come with different programming capacities. Choosing the model that best fits your schedule will allow you to “set it and forget it” and get the biggest savings.
- Change the thermostat settings if you are going away – Set the thermostat to an energy saving temperature for the duration of your trip. No need to keep an empty house warmer than 55 degrees during the winter.
- Keep your thermostat away from direct heating/cooling sources – Having a thermostat directly next to your vents can lead to incorrect temperature readings and inaccurate temperature control.
ENERGY STAR estimates that Connecticut heating oil customers who properly use a programmable thermostat can save up to $430 a year and almost $4,759 over the lifespan of the thermostat! For more information on programmable thermostats, contact us.
